Mayamural

Mayamural - mural for the end of the world 2012.

MAYAMURAL, designed by Aleksandra Toborowicz is a wall painting inspired by the Mayan inscription from Tortuguero (Mexico, 7th Century). Tetris and Mayan hieroglyphs in one. The one that is treated as the end of the world on December 21 2012 prophecy. The mural depicts Mayan glyphs in the form of game Tetris, enriching our interpretation of the famous inscription with new meanings.

  1. A nice mural but seeing the bit drab surroundings it could have been a more uplifting one in color and expression is my feeling.

  2. The world has (not yet?) gone. So I hope the Maya's were wrong and not had the wrong year in mind...

  4. 2012 must have seemed like light years away to 7th century Mayans. I agree with biebkriebles, let's hope it's not a matter of faulty arithmetic. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

  5. Very interesting mural but the world is still alive and kicking. However, there are many troubling issues to be concerned about. Kind of scary.

  6. What an unusual mix of Mayan iconography and computer game. The "Game Over" is funny in this context. Good find.

  7. I guess we lasted through that year. Based on our recent election here in the US, I am hoping the Mayan calendar wasn't just off by four years or so. I'm very worried.
